Commemoration of Jubilees/Birth Anniversaries of Tiatr Artistes of Yester Years

TAG Celebrated 100th Birth Centenary of five late tiatr artistes of yester years

Tiatr Academy of Goa (A Govt. of Goa Undertaking) celebrated the 100th Birth Anniversary of five late Tiatr/Khell-Tiatr personalities of yesteryears namely Minguel Rod, Vincent de Saligao, Kamat de Assolna, Antonio Moraes and Mussolini Vales de Menezes.

The celebration took place in collaboration with Ravindra Bhavan Margao on 22nd March 2025 at 5:00 pm at Pai Tiatrist Auditorium, Ravindra Bhavan Margao. Shri. Digambar Kamat, Hon. MLA of Margao Constituency was the Chief Guest. Speaking as the chief guest for the event, Margao MLA Digambar Kamat called tiatr one of the oldest art forms in Goa. “Tiatr is one of the oldest forms of art. It reflects the happenings of the society and I understand its importance. It is a good form of art, there is a lot of meaning and can help to educate people. I am glad that it is still alive and has been going abroad to the UK and Gulf. It has become so popular and people like to watch it too” he said. TAG President Anthony Barbosa in his welcome address praised the work of the artistes of the yester years saying that is was because of their efforts that tiatr was kept alive. Marcos Gonsalves, Vice President of TAG proposed the vote of Thanks. Family members of late Minguel Rod, Antonio Moraes and Mussolini Vales de Menezes along with Shri. Suresh Divkar, Member Secretary of Tiatr Academy of Goa, Shri. Agnelo Fernandes, Member Secretary of Ravindra Bhavan Margao and council members of TAG were also present for the celebration.

The event to mark the birth centenary of legendary tiatrists was also organized in collaboration with Ravindra Bhavan Sankhali on 23rd March 2025 at 5:00 pm at Ravindra Bhavan Sankhali. Dr. Pramod Sawant, Hon. Chief Minister of Goa was the Chief Guest on the occasion. The event was attended by Shri. Dattaram Chimulkar, Vice Chairman of Ravindra Bhavan Sankhali along with other dignitaries. “Tiatrist have played a key role in creating awareness about social issues through their performances” Sawant said. He encouraged TAG to recommend tiatr artistes for government awards and announced plans for new honours for tiatrists. “Women have played an important role in tiatr from the beginning, and their contribution continues to be strong,” he added. He urged TAG to take steps to document tiatr’s history, including the contributions of tiatrists in making it globally known. TAG President Anthony Barbosa thanked the Chief Minister for his support and requested further assistance, including help for the proposed Tiatr Bhavan project. TAG Vice President Marcos Gonsalves delivered the vote of thanks.

On both the days, a musical show was presented by TAG featuring some of the popular songs of late tiatr artists. The songs were presented by renowned tiatr personalities of Konkani stage for which the live band music was provided by Normano Cardozo and his Brigade. The event was hosted by Aplon Rebello, a well-known tiatr personality.
