Encouraging Budding Artists: 3rd All Goa Inter-School Tiatr Competition Kicks Off
Vasco, July 4, 2025 – The much-anticipated 3rd All Goa Inter-School Tiatr Competition, organized by the Tiatr Academy of Goa (TAG) in collaboration with Ravindra Bhavan, Vasco, was officially inaugurated on Friday at the Ravindra Bhavan auditorium. This annual event aims to nurture young talent and foster appreciation for Tiatr, Goa’s unique and vibrant theatrical tradition.
The competition was formally inaugurated by Shri Mauvin Godinho, Hon’ble Minister for Panchayats, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Present at the ceremony were Mr. Anthony Barbosa, President of TAG, Mr. Jayant Jadhav, Chairman of Ravindra Bhavan, Vasco, along with other dignitaries and cultural enthusiasts.
In his address, Minister Mauvin Godinho lauded the efforts of TAG in promoting Goan heritage through youth engagement. He emphasized the cultural significance of Tiatr in preserving the Konkani language and commended the immense contribution of Tiatrists toward enriching and promoting it.
He remarked that “Tiatr is a mirror of society”, reflecting the social, political, and cultural realities of the times. He also urged parents to support and encourage their children to actively participate in such art forms to ensure their continued legacy and relevance.
Mr. Anthony Barbosa, President of TAG, highlighted the importance of introducing Tiatr at the school level, stating, “Children are the future of the Konkani Tiatr stage. Through this competition, we hope to inspire a lifelong love for performing arts while preserving our rich cultural legacy.”
Mr. Jayant Jadhav, Chairman of Ravindra Bhavan, extended full support to the initiative and reiterated the Bhavan’s commitment to promoting local art and culture through similar programs.
The competition opened with a powerful performance of ‘Kalliz Roddta’, written by acclaimed playwright Austin S. Rodrigues and directed by Santosh Shetkar. The Tiatr captivated the audience with its emotional depth, engaging music, and dramatic storytelling — hallmarks of the Tiatr tradition.
Over the coming days, students from schools across Goa will present their Tiatr productions, each bringing fresh creativity and youthful enthusiasm to the stage. The competition promises to be a celebration of talent, collaboration, and cultural expression, giving young artists a valuable platform to shine.
