TAG to celebrate Lucasinho Ribeiro’s Birth Anniversary
The Tiatr Academy of Goa (TAG), a Government of Goa undertaking, in collaboration with Assagao Union High School, Assagao, will commemorate the birth anniversary of late Lucasinho Ribeiro, widely acknowledged as the Creator of Tiatr, on January 2, 2026. The programme will be held at 3.00 p.m. at the Assagao Union High School Hall.
Lucasinho Ribeiro is remembered as a pioneering figure who laid the foundation of Tiatr, a popular form of Konkani musical theatre that has played a vital role in shaping Goan culture and identity. His contribution to Konkani theatre continues to influence generations of tiatrists and theatre enthusiasts.
As part of the celebrations, TAG will honour three distinguished personalities for their outstanding contributions to Tiatr. Neves Aristides Oliveira, Antonio Xavier Correia, and Alfredo Fernandes, popularly known as Alfi de Divar, will be conferred with the Lifetime Contribution to Tiatr Awards (Non-Commercial). The awards recognise individuals who have dedicated their lives to the promotion and preservation of Tiatr through non-commercial efforts.
Smt. Delilah Michael Lobo, MLA of the Siolim Constituency and Vice-Chairperson of the Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG), has consented to be the Chief Guest for the function. Eminent senior tiatrist Shri Tomazinho Cardozo will grace the occasion as the Guest of Honour. Shri Yuri Ribeiro, grandson of Lucasinho Ribeiro, will also be present as a Special Guest, adding a personal and emotional dimension to the programme.
Speaking about the event, Anthony Barbosa, President of the Tiatr Academy of Goa, said that the celebration is not only a tribute to the creator of Tiatr but also an occasion to honour artistes who have devoted their lives to the art form. “We have appealed to all tiatr lovers to attend the function in large numbers and be part of this meaningful celebration of our rich cultural heritage,” he stated.
The programme is expected to witness the presence of tiatrists, students, cultural activists, and art lovers from across Goa. TAG believes that commemorating stalwarts like Lucasinho Ribeiro helps strengthen the roots of traditional Goan art forms and inspires the younger generation to carry the legacy forward.
