Tiatr Academy to Release First-Ever Research Journal-‘TIATR-MACHI’ on October 24

MARGAO: In a significant step toward preserving and promoting Goa’s unique cultural heritage, the Tiatr Academy of Goa (TAG) will release its first-ever research journal on tiatr, titled Tiatr-Machi, on October 24.
The release will be held at the hands of Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, alongside Minister for Art and Culture Ramesh Tawadkar, reflecting the state government’s strong support for academic and cultural initiatives.

The journal marks an important milestone in the history of tiatr, a Goan theatrical art form that has thrived for over 133 years. Despite its popularity and cultural significance, tiatr has received limited academic attention. Tiatr-Machi aims to address this gap through in-depth research, critical analysis, and documentation of various aspects of tiatr.

The inaugural issue will feature several research-based articles that explore the historical, social, literary, and performative dimensions of tiatr. The journal is edited by renowned writer and journalist Marcos Gonsalves, with Fausto V. Da Costa and Fr. Luis Gomes serving as sub-editors.

The editorial board consists of notable personalities and scholars such as Prof. Remy Dias, Dr. Hanumant Chopdekar, Prof. Joao Costa, Dr. Andre Rafael Fernandes, Fr. Milton Rodrigues, Dr. Carlos Fernandes, Tomazinho Cardozo, and Wilson Mazarello.
Speaking ahead of the release, TAG President Anthony Barbosa expressed great satisfaction at the upcoming launch.

“Tiatr is an integral part of Goan identity, and this journal is a step toward recognising its importance on an academic level,” he said. “With over a century of history, tiatr deserves thorough research and documentation so that its richness is appreciated not only in Goa but across the world.”
Barbosa also acknowledged the consistent support from the government, especially from the Chief Minister and the Art and Culture Minister, who have shown keen interest in encouraging scholarly work on tiatr.

In addition to the journal, four new tiatr-related books will be released during the same event. These include Kor Mhojem Kalliz, Tujea Kallza Sarkem by Willy Silveira, Novem Jivit by William Fernandes, Pixi Zannvai by Natty Fernandes, and Uzvadd Tuka Diun by Menino Fernandes (Menino de Bandar).
